Welcome to Sagar Blue Art Pottery — handmade Jaipur blue pottery crafted by hand, carried through generations.
We are a family of potters in Jaipur. Every piece that leaves our workshop is shaped, painted and fired by our own hands — the way this craft was taught to us.
Jaipur Blue Pottery is made from quartz powder rather than clay. It is unforgiving, slow, and entirely dependent on the hand that works it.
Our Journey
It began in arented workshop.
In 1995 our grandfather, Late Shri Ram Behal Prajapat, started this pottery journey from a rented space — specialising in body moulding and structure making, with Late Shri Ramjeet Prajapat contributing design and colouring.
In 2013 the family established SAGAR BLUE ART POTTERY, named after nephew Sagar. To preserve Jaipur Blue Pottery while taking the tradition forward.
The Craft
Quartz, water,cobalt, patience.

Material Preparation
Quartz stone powder, fuller's earth and gum are worked together into the dough-like body that gives Jaipur Blue Pottery its distinctive lightness.
02Body & Structure
Structure making was our grandfather's specialisation. The body is raised, wall thickness judged by hand, and the proportion of the piece decided before anything else.
03Moulding
Forms are shaped on the wheel and in moulds, then left to firm slowly so the surface stays true and free of stress.
04Design
Motifs are drawn freehand — lotus, jaali lattice, birds, miniature panels. No transfers, no prints; the drawing is the craft.

Quality over quantity
We would rather make fewer pieces properly
Handmade work cannot be rushed. Each piece is finished at the pace the material allows, checked by hand, and released only when it is right. Small variations are not faults — they are the evidence of a person at work.

Students of the Department of Fashion Communication, National Institute of Fashion Technology, Jodhpur (2025) spent time with our family at Prem Nagar, Jaipur, and recorded the craft as it is practised — tools, raw materials, motifs, the full firing process, quality control and the artisans behind it.
